NOTE: For a great resource on this and similar topics, get Manners and Customs of Bible Lands by Fred H. Wight. It's currently available in various editions and forms from Amazon at prices ranging from $1.50 to about $11. Be sure to get the right one--there are many similar titles out there that are not nearly as clear and helpful.
